Letter of Intent



66 credits

This program is intended to prepare students for advanced study in either literature or creative writing, and like other honours programs, has minimum standards for GPA and specific courses. Honours does not require an extra year of study, and can be completed within the minimum number of credits required for a B.A. Students are permitted to register in creative writing courses after approval of their portfolio.

Introduction to Literary Study (ENGL 260, ENGL 261, ENGL 262)

chosen from two introductory creative writing courses in poetry, prose fiction, or drama

chosen from advanced creative writing courses; at least 6 credits must be in advanced poetry, prose fiction, or drama

chosen from at least TWO of the following periods of British literature
 
 
  • early, medieval, and sixteenth century
  • seventeenth century
  • eighteenth century
  • nineteenth century

credits chosen from courses in modern, American, and postcolonial literature

credits chosen from courses in Canadian literature

ENGL elective literature courses

Students may not take more than 12 credits of creative writing courses in a given academic year.
